Thirty years after the Khmer Rouge, Duch, a leader during its rule of Democratic Kampuchea from 1975 to 1979, and best known for running S-21 prison camp, is the first Khmer Rouge leader being tried by the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia for the crimes of the regime. Cambodian artist Vann Nath, who was incarcerated for one year at the prison and had his life spared thanks to his skill as a painter will testify at Duch's trial, that started in February 2009 and will restart on Monday, March 30, 2009.
